If we think about applying the selectivity formula twice, we ll soon spot it. The critical component in our case is the bit that goes greater(num_distinct(t1.c1), num_distinct(t2.c2)) We have two join components, t1.join1 = t2.join1 and t1.join2 = t2.join2. In 3 you learned that you combine selectivities on single tables by multiplying them together (at least, that s what you do when the individual predicates have an and between them). If you use the assignment operator with arrays, you ll create another reference to the same array. In other words, the assignment operator is a shallow copy, just as you saw with String. There may be times when you are having trouble hearing a caller. The connection may be bad (because of their old fashioned phone, e.g., a non-BlackBerry) or you may be using a headset.
